Frank and his wife, Lita, bought the land that is now Overmountain Vineyards in 1990. Frank and the family began planting Cabernet Sauvignon in 2000 and over the next four years planted four other varieties. In 2007, Frank enrolled in the Viticulture and Enology program at Surry Community College, and studied there for two years. Frank also had the privilege of working under Lee Griffin, the owner and winemaker of Rockhouse Vineyards, a true trailblazer in the North Carolina wine industry. In 2010, Frank and Lita opened Overmountain Vineyards to the public for wine tastings. Today, Overmountain Vineyards is one of the most innovative wineries in the state and focuses on making premier wines. Frank is the winemaker and manages all of the viticulture.
Sofia Lilly, second-generation farmer and assistant winemaker at Overmountain Vineyards, grew up on the farm and in the vineyards. She has been involved in the winemaking and vineyards since the very first vintage.
In 2014, Sofia graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelors degree in Biology and English, and chose to return to Overmountain Vineyards and is highly involved in the family business. Sofia plans to continue her education in the field of fermentation science, and is currently apprenticing under Frank.
Collin Lilly, oldest nephew of Frank and Lita Lilly, has been working in the family vineyards since before he was 8 years old. He has been involved in the operations of Overmountain Vineyards, since the beginning.
In 2010, Collin became an important member of the tasting room and winery teams, while he concurrently studied business management at UNC Charlotte. He currently resides in Napa, CA while he pursues his degree in Viticulture and Winery Technology at Napa Valley College. We look forward to Collin’s return to Overmountain Vineyards.
Friend and neighbor, Mindy hosted the first official fundraising event at OMV back in May, 2012. Utilizing her background of marketing and event planning, Mindy began easing us into our current event series that has brought such acts as Gigi Dover & the Big Love, Mac Arnold, Letters to Abigail and LAKE & MOORE to the winery. She also works some days in the tasting room and just loves interacting with the people who come to visit. A Los Angeles transplant, Mindy left behind her familiar life to venture into the unknown. Now a happy NC transplant of 8 years, Mindy and her two children Amelia (14) & Jasper (8) live around the corner and have become “adopted family”.
