who we are
A family vineyard and tasting experience in the Tryon Foothills
The Land
Frank and Lita Lilly purchased the land that would become Overmountain Vineyards in 1990.
The Vineyard Takes Root
The family began planting Cabernet Sauvignon in 2000, and over the next four years added four additional varieties.
Craft & Study
In 2007, Frank enrolled in the Viticulture & Enology program at Surry Community College and studied for two years, including time working under NC wine industry pioneer Lee Griffin of Rockhouse Vineyards.
The Tasting Room
The tasting room opened in 2010 and welcomes guests year-round, with stellar foothills views and seated outdoor tastings.
The Next Generation
Sofia Lilly, a second-generation farmer and winemaker, grew up on the farm and has been involved since the very first vintage. She returned after graduating from Western Carolina University and is a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Estate-Grown Focus
Overmountain Vineyards grows 18 acres of grapes, including Petit Manseng, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. These estate plantings shape the core of our French-style approach.
A Tasting Room With a View
Our tasting room is a quaint guest cottage overlooking the Tryon Foothills. Tastings are seated outdoors under the pavilion, and reservations are recommended—especially for groups.
